Most badass thing you have done despite MS?

What is your most impressive feat, be it physical or mental, personal or professional, despite disability or symptoms from MS?

Has anyone passed the bar despite cognitive symptoms? Has anyone run a 10K with a spastic left leg? Has anyone raised three young children as a single mother despite fatigue in the hot summer of Israel?

I want to hear some stories.

I drank 2.5 liters of Vodka one day... Don't know if this counts, but it is clearly the most stupid thing that I've done in quite a while.... Next morning I woke up and went to work, didn't even have a headache.

Lets see...in the one month that I've had ms I've homeschooled two kids while looking after the younger two while also doing my own solumedrol IV which I hung from a wire hanger on the window. Only once did I bleed into my line because I had to chase a toddler and took the bag down.

DIY IV while having optic neuritis - not for the faint hearted.

Being newly diagnosed and teaching, nurturing, and taking care of four children cannot be easy, and doing so with an IV line of SoluMedrol in your arm cannot be called anything less than FEAT FANTASTIC, especially because you're suffering an Optic Neuritis attack, all of which means your feat trumps my feat by far.

Your feat involves high responsibility, mine did not. Your feat is happening when you're in the middle of an exacerbation, mine did not. Your feat is happening with you giving yourself IV steroids, mine did not. You've earned the TiMS Mother of the Year Award. Hopefully, the steroids will be helpful for you. BEST WISHES!

My feat- Five years after diagnosis, staring down the face of the NASTAR downhill slalom course at Whiteface and then actually taking the leap out of the starting gate, not missing any gates, and not wiping out of the race.

most bad ass thing i've done?

finished grad school.

i was diagnosed one week into my first semester, i worked three days a week at a hospital, had diffuse lhermittes every time i walked (it was a really big campus...), fatigue, active flare, oral steroids, my aunt passed away, i moved apartments, i had an ongoing workers comp case, arm pain kept me awake at night and prevented me from completing my research proposal on time--numbness and tingling with bent arms...at important times, like when i was typing my proposal

second semester was no better. more active lesions, lichen planus, new allergies, central serous retinopathy (rare in women, but a risk factor is stress...), a classmate passed away of cancer, new dog with separation anxiety, relationship stress.

then came the internships. 6 months of full time internships while working a day at the hospital for the extra money.

NO idea how i did it, but i am SO GLAD its over.



most bad ass thing i am in the process of doing? riding 100 miles through the northern california hills in september for the waves to wine ride.

hmmm, not sure what to say here.

i think the most impressive was touring the ruins of Pompei (she did the regular tour). at the end, a lady came up to her and asked "Did you do the tour already? I couldn't do the whole thing and i don't have walking issues. I'm very impressed."

When we got back to the tour bus, they all broke out in applause at what my wife accomplished.
