If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Dr. Woodrow Monte

Post by jerrygallow »

This man, Dr. Woodrow Monte, is not well known. Yet he formulated an intriguing theory about Multiple Sclerosis. He was a food scientist and professor from Arizona, now retired, but a tireless opponent of aspartame. He wrote a book called "While Science Sleeps" (and has a website by the same name). His chapter (9) on Multiple Sclerosis is free to download and read on that site. His theory is gaining some traction and a few studies seem to support his argument. I offer it for background info (of course nothing is proven yet). There is a youtube video with Dr. Mercola where he kind of rambles and explains the theory. The written work is better. He's the only person I've heard who has answered some of the puzzling things about MS, like why do teachers get it so often? Why did it appear in the mid 1850s. Why was it a man's disease one hundred years ago, and now it's a woman's disease 3 to 1? Just thought I would throw it out there. I've emailed him and he is very kind to respond. google his website if interested.

I read the book and it is indeed a very intriguing theory. That being said, I've also tried the prescribed diet for over a year, with neither improvements nor stability as a result. If methanol is the main cause for MS, in my case there would have to be an additional source of it.

I too follow the protocol, but have no way of knowing if it works. I wonder if he is right and wrong at the same time. If MS comes from methanol, could it be a by product of gut fermentation (from excessive sugar intake mixed with slow digestion?), as opposed to tomatoes and canned goods. Or, if it comes from canned goods, could it be from the aluminum--one study found that ppws have 6 times the normal level of aluminum in their urine.

These thoughts have been lurking in my mind as well. In particular if there isn't some type of bacteria or fungus/yeast that produces methanol. If that's the case, figuring out what organism exactly is causing this probably isn't straightforward...

MS and all the other disease we see today are the results of what we have done to our environment. There are many things out there which result in MS. Heavy metals, vaccines, drugs, process foods, eating sick animals, pesticide, fluoride and all the other pollutants in our environment. When we eat a diet mainly of raw fruits and vegetables and stay away from the toxins we get our health back. For sure staying away from can foods is a good things but it is not the only thing. Our health is a total fo everything we do to our bodies.
