Has the Phase III trail of fingolimod (FTY720) started ?

Hi,

Does any one know if the phase III trail of fingolimod (FTY720) started ?

Last I read about the trail was that, it is to start in the last quater of 2006

They are still recruiting people right now for the phase III Fingolimod trial.

Here in Ottawa, they are recruiting patients and my first dose is due on December 7th '06. Will keep you all posted.

So do we still think that 2010 availability is likely for Fingolimod in the US? Is that likely to be the first oral medication out there, assuming everything goes well? ( In case you couldn't tell, I really need an alternative medication delivery method to look forward to!)

I think 2010 availability in the US is reasonable for FTY720. It's hard to say if it will be the first of the oral treatments. Mylinax and teriflunomide are also both into their phase III trials. Any of those 3 treatments could be available in 2009 if everything went well for them. It seems unlikely that any regulator will approve a new MS treatment after only 1 year of phase III trials a la tysabri, so 2008 is probably out of the question. Just my guesses...
