Nocturia - peeing like crazy at night

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Nocturia - peeing like crazy at night

Post by henrypig »

Hi folks - first post (male, 42, symptomatic 20 yrs, EDSS 7.5, SPMS, on minocycline 20mg/day, baclofen 30mg/night, clonazepam 0.25mg/night, I'm in a manual chair). I also pee like crazy 1 out of every 3 or 4 nights. If I first pee with a full bladder (250-300mL) at 1am, say, I will have to go again 1.5 hrs later, same full bladder, then again every 1.5 hrs until I physically get up out of bed. I have peed 1.5L in one night! Driving me insane.

I drink very little during the day as a result (usually 1L or less, one coffee) and nothing after 6pm (we go to bed 9-10ish). So I[m probably dehydrated most of the time.

The first pee is the normal night-time colour (slightly dense); the rest are straw-clear, as though I've been chugging water.

I eat healthily, am slim, and have no other conditions (e.g., diabetes). My lab tests are normal. My neuro, GP, and physiatrist are stumped/unhelpful ("just use a Foley" - thanks).

Anyone else have this? Any explanations? Could it be the baclofen?

Argh.

You might want to go through the doctor's prescribing information for all of medications that you're taking and see if your symptoms are listed.

In addition, certain food items also have known diuretic effects, e.g., hibiscus tea, stevia, etc.
