A range of symptoms

Post by bridgers »

Hi,

I was wondering what people think about these range of symptoms? I'm male 41 and have for a number of years noticed small but increasing 'issues". I'll split the symptoms into long term, medium term and recent

Long term
Numbness and tingling left hand, ring and little finger - EP test done and damage found - over ten years with this problem.
Left thigh numb - EP test done damage found - 5-6 years
Slight gait problems - dropping toes and dragging feet - ten years
Frequent urge to urinate - believed to be weak bladder neck - tablets but has improved slightly no medication anymore - 7 years
Problems swallowing heavy food - bread etc - causes pain in chest, convulsions and regurgitation of food, drinking water of fluid quickly relives problem. I avoid foods that may set this off.

Medium term
Face numbness and sensation changes on the left side - Brain MRI - no problems but small lesions - 4 years
Right big toe numbness - spine CT - some minor disc issues - inconclusive

Recent
Right thigh - exactly the same as left thigh - not tested yet
Increased frequency of gait problems than before - nearly every step causes slight toe drop - gets worse after walking for while
Tightness in left cheek - muscle sometimes contracts and then slowly releases
Pins and needles in hands - worse in the mornings
Using the wrong words for things, struggling to articulate now and again.
Feeling a little clumsy and off when typing etc

It is the recent symptoms that have caused me to sit up and take more notice now - especially the gait changes

My vitamin D is low last blood test;

25-HYDROXY-VITAMINE D : 24.4 ( (30.0-100.0#opt:50.0-100.0) )
VITAMINE B12 : 625 ( (300-835) )

Off to the doctors this week.

Hi bridgers,

I think your symptoms could be caused by a huge number of things, most of which will be investigated by your doctors. There are some nutrient deficiencies beyond b12 that are pretty well ignored as a possible cause for neurological symptoms by many mds. Copper, iron, etc. I don't have time to google it right now but if you google neurological symptoms and nutrient deficiency, you should find a good list of things for which you can request a blood test. You might find an easily solved cause for some of your issues or you might just knock many possibilities off the list for a relatively low cost. To me it's worth it...maybe not for you. :)

Hope you find your answers and feel better soon!

Thanks - I am hoping that it is just something simple, but I've had these problems for a number of years. Without any clear answers, so time to get it sorted.

Be nice to have a definite answer. I live in Belgium and the health care here is pretty good.

Cheers
