I mean these cramps are severe and there is nothing you can do for it as far as stretching it out. Last night, I had to take 4 muscle relaxers and 2 oxycodones to help, but that was long term help, I need to know how to get rid of it or avoid it all together. Any suggestions?
I have this exact same pain. The first time I had it was in Sept 1997. For years it has happened only 2 or 3 times per year. Lately it is happening VERY frequently, almost daily sometimes. I had many many many tests done about 3 years ago, all to no avail. They wrapped blood pressure cuffs around my legs and tested the blood pressure or flow or something as they did something electrical... I don't recall what. They did CAT scans, MRI's, something with needles and dye. Ugh. Never found the problem. People who have normal leg cramps cannot imagine this pain. If you move it just hurts worse, if you don't move it just hurts worse. It just HURTS. I described it as it feels like something going from just above knee level up into my groin on the extreme inner part of my thigh with a feeling of some sort of claw ripping all the nerves, blood vessels and muscle to shreds. Sometimes my leg will be sore for a few days afterward. I was sent to a neurologist for a while... lost confidence in him, he said he thought I could have MS, but I am too old for the onset of MS... I am now 66 yrs old, female. Everything I read said he was dead wrong. Plus all he could think to do was tell me to stop drinking diet coke because I had lesions on my brain from drinking them. So, I said all that to say this, you are not alone, but I don't have the cure. I don't take meds for it, I just endure, usually it lasts for maybe 30 minutes at most. If you found a cure, I hope you will share it, if I find one I will do the same. All the best. By the way, I am also in FL. Maybe it is the water... the Floridan Aquifer is getting polluted. =(

Welcome to ThisIsMS Calypso,
Magnesium can be helpful in alleviating muscle cramps. Have you ever had your magnesium levels tested? Do you take a magnesium supplement? If not, a good form of magnesium to try that has good absorption is magnesium glycinate.

Hi. Jimmylegs, are there any other minerals, that can be made and consumed as magnesium "oil" via skin? I personally don't mind that after-feeling on the skin, once the stomach is left undisturbed!;)

yep there are various kinds of soaks and lotions that you can use and expect to improve your nutrient status at least locally, but i don't have great info on dose response, ie how much stuff on how much skin = what improvement in serum levels?

but there are zinc medicated creams like penaten, vit E creams etc, shampoos with selenium, zinc medicated bandages, and an alternative to mag oil is a plain old epsom salts bath.

when it comes to vit b12 you can use a sublingual strip to bypass the gut and deliver the dose straight into the bloodstream via the mucous membranes, and you can imagine a zinc or other lozenge having similar potential.

the only time i used a topical product on my skin and tested the effect in serum, it was a medication containing calcitriol (active metabolite of vit d3), and when i had my serum 1,25(OH)2vitD3 levels tested, the result was through the roof - i discontinued its use after that, to avoid any chance of toxicity.

speaking of toxicity, other more risky absorption practices involve things like enema - read a case study where a parent gave a child magnesium via enema, ostensibly to help them, but inadvertently administered a fatal overdose.

that's all i can think of off the top of my head!
