Study claims long duration of MS associated with higher mortality

Well, I must be next to go.

These sort of studies don't help anybody. They are so general that all they do is confuse and concern whilst providing no insight. Perhaps they could study a whole range of other diseases and publish the results, perhaps they could monitor the variables and look at which predominated, perhaps they could compare treatment paths, perhaps they could look at general health profiles of the population, perhaps they could look at comorbidities, perhaps they could look at coinfections, perhaps they could come up with a better conclusions than we need to look at better treatments. Clearly this sort of stuff will not provide any useful input to managing your life day to day.

This is one of those things that frazzles your brain if you think about it too hard.

So apparently about 15 years from now I should be reaching my expiration date. But most people with MS have life expectancy only 6-10 shorter than average. But if I make it that far I'll probably be a vegetable. Except that according to the UMMC, around two-thirds of people diagnosed with MS are able to walk without a wheelchair two decades after their diagnosis.

So if I listen to the scientists and the data, I'll probably be tap-dancing my way to my grandchildren's wedding except in the case that I'm bedridden within a month.

That clears things up.

My first symptoms were over 20 years ago. Closer to 25.

My best before date happened long before I had MS. A friend of mine pointed out if you could re-live it your imagination would still be better. Definitely before kids, marriage, graduation, etc. So I'm not worried about early mortality. Now, late mortality, that would be a problem! eecchh.
