Kirsty Duncan wins Etobicoke again!
Kirsty Duncan has worked tirelessly in Opposition as a Liberal MP in Canadian Parliament, on behalf of all Canadians with MS, and put forward a private member's bill to support CCSVI. Now that her party has formed a majority government, we may see this Bill become a Liberal government Bill, and law of the land.
Thank goodness we are finally rid of Stephen Harper. Good luck to Justin Trudeau.

Don't you think you might be a bit naïve putting faith in a politician regarding this? After all we can't even get the doctors on the same page.

Nope. Probably all you have to do is read her webpages to see she is one of the hardest working politicians and scientists you've ever seen. She should be PM. The fly in the ointment is whether she is given the freedom and power necessary to be effective. She does have a head start, having already gotten a Bill on CCSVI through second reading...Brainteaser wrote:Don't you think you might be a bit naïve putting faith in a politician regarding this? Happy for you and your country, 1eye!!!
For those who don't know her, here's Kirsty Duncan speaking out on the necessity of CCSVI science and brain research, in a video message to the 2014 Canadian neurovascular health conference.
As the author of a bill to rigorously investigate CCSVI, (without pharma's interference), she is a known advocate. She is a scientist, has a doctorate degree, and understands bias. Having had the pleasure of meeting her and speaking with her at the 2013 Canadian CCSVI conference, I can say that I am THRILLED that Canadians have this brilliant, compassionate and energetic woman as their Minister of Science! She's the real deal. Here's to better days.

Dr. Jock Murray had some contentious words to say on the subject of Kirsty Duncan's support of CCSVI in light of her new appointment.

Ouch! I'm sure she can handle this though.“Perhaps if she were to revisit her former comments and championing of CCSVI, as others have done, and would issue a statement to that effect,” Dr. Murray said, “she would regain some credibility in the eyes of scientists.”
Duncan’s office did not reply to repeated requests for comment.

Where have I read that? I've read that somewhere.... (two posts up)Participants on one online MS forum recently called Duncan a “brilliant, compassionate and energetic woman.”

Re: Kirsty Duncan wins Etobicoke again!
Well, you know Kirsty Duncan has been raked over coals before. She even wrote a book partly about that.
She is a politician who is used to the wrong-headed drivel that often comes from the press. The previous PM would have laughed at the press. This one has invited them in.
There is another side to this story other than the one being offered as gospel by the likes of Jock Murray, and she is already well acquainted with the so-called scientific consensus being given in some publications. She is a scientist, and people who accuse her of anything unscientific had better be careful. A minister of the Canadian government is a very powerful individual.
There is in Canada a growing awareness of CCSVI. People who have MS and their loved ones and caregivers are not well-served by misrepresentations and falsehoods such as the ones contained in this article.
According to anybody who knows anything about CCSVI, MS is not caused by anything of the sort. It has not been called anything of the sort for at least five years. Nobody uses stents for CCSVI.
P.S. I got my solar panel rooftop going and my roof now earns $3.80 per hour ($0.38 /kWh for 10 kW), while the sun shines. Twice as much as I made in 1969 in my first job.

Neither Health Canada nor the FDA have specifically outlawed it, as it has obvious merit. A large number of MS patients in Canada have already had it.According to Zamboni’s theory, MS is caused by a congestion of blood in the brain caused by congested veins (current established theories attribute MS to a combination of genetic and environmental factors). To treat this congestion, Zamboni proposed a procedure some call “liberation therapy,” in which stents or angioplasty balloons are used to open the veins leading from the brain—an operation that is neither approved by Health Canada or the FDA.
According to anybody who knows anything about CCSVI, MS is not caused by anything of the sort. It has not been called anything of the sort for at least five years. Nobody uses stents for CCSVI.
No studies anywhere have found any relationship between "liberation therapy" and anything, ever. The rest of that statement is hopelessly garbled, but just for the record, a lot of science shows that CCSVI is real, can be very bad for you (including your heart), and has symptoms that are often confused with MS. Additionally, many MS sufferers have benefited from the procedure. This fact is known by anyone who works with MS patients in Canada, in spite of its suppression here. It has been suppressed by the actions of a few people and their paid lawyers here in Canada. That will soon change. Many peer-reviewed studies have found no relationship between CCSVI, liberation therapy, and MS.
She has plenty. She does not need to regain any. Ask a real scientist.“Perhaps if she were to revisit her former comments and championing of CCSVI, as others have done, and would issue a statement to that effect,” Dr. Murray said, “she would regain some credibility in the eyes of scientists.”
Well, I do believe at least that much.Duncan’s office did not reply to repeated requests for comment.

Out of curiosity, if you are Canadian and support this bill, how would you suppose we go about deciding what treatments health Canada should cover and which they should not? Surely, they cannot cover all treatments that are requested by patients or advocacy groups. There are a lot of unusual treatments not accepted by the general medical community which are accepted by small fervent groups and have significant anecdotal evidence. After all, CCSVI was not associated with MS in multiple trials, and there exists not class I evidence that any treatment geared towards CCSVI is effective in MS.
It seems to me that if you want liberation to be covered by health Canada, you should accept that your tax dollars will be spent on all sorts of alternative treatments for various diseases. What if someone wants bee sting therapy or HSCT for non-relapsing progressive multiple sclerosis? Are you prepared to cough up the dough and have worse roads, school, and other government supported amenities?
Even if you believe in CCSVI, you should accept that you ultimately have to convince the scientific and medical community if you want it to be public funding. It is not as though we have a bottomless pit of money/time/resources. We have to decide how best to use limited resources for the greatest good of the community.

Re: Kirsty Duncan wins Etobicoke again!
There are a lot of demands on health care money in Canada. Provincial governments hold those purse strings. Drug companies try to get both public and private insurance to pay usurious rates for stuff the US FDA says is safe. As we know, it isn't. Personally, I think they should stop giving in to drug vendor extortion. The so-called "DMD"s for MS are a good example. Lately they have been telling people: "Don't stop taking them. Beware the rebound effect." Heroin vendors don't even go that far. But remember, their bottom line depends on these lies being believed.
I don't envy people who have been sold false hope by drug-dealing liars. The economic argument for CCSVI treatment is an obviously good one. Ask any PSW with MS patients for clients. Between that and my home-made biotin 300mg, made with rice bran filler (more than a year now), I hope to be improving more yet.
Yesterday we heard the good news that MS is caused by a particular gene. So much for viri, bacteria, and bad immune response.
Dr. Zamboni has made a signal contribution to the MS community by discovering the MS-specific delayed drainage time. The MS brain will remain unstable within 10 or so seconds after a big posture change, such as getting up from a seated position. During this delayed drainage time it is not safe to walk. If the so-called medical community wanted to do something for pwMS, they would spread this information far and wide, and save many falls and injuries. But they don't want to.
I haven't posted much lately. I had a collar-bone reconstruction, featuring bone grafts, titanium screws and a titanium plate. Today I took my electric tricycle for its first 11 km ride. A hot sunny day. My wife changed her mind about following me, and made me ride behind her, after she got me to slow down. Didn't even break a sweat. So those plans are complete: $3.80 per sunny hour from my solar rooftop, and a 36v electric motor on my tricycle. A good day was had by all.
My hydro company's checks are made out to "...Lucier and Christ" It should read "Christopher", and should include my last name, but as my daughter pointed out, at least they didn't make them out to "Lucifer and Christ". What a difference a letter makes!

I think the scientific community has not wanted to be abused by the medical mafia and has therefore stayed away from the discussion. If Canada's Science Minister wanted to do something for pwMS she might make it more difficult for doctors and their lawyers to threaten medical licenses. She might also reassure patients who have an out-of-country CCSVI procedure that they will not be abandoned by Canadian health-care people. It is worse than religious persecution. We may as well have Donald Trump walling them out.Even if you believe in CCSVI, you should accept that you ultimately have to convince the scientific and medical community if you want it to be public funding. 1eye, hope your are feeling better soon from your surgery, as if you don't have enough going on!
What do you think is the connection between CCSVI and this latest gene discovery?
There is a lot of info on the MS Society site (Canada) with regards to CCSVI suggesting that CCSVI is not linked to MS. How will this procedure ever get approved by the Canadian government without support from medical community and the Canadian MS Society?

I have long ago concluded that the medical community (including MS Societies) is not to be trusted to do real science. They do not necessarily have either the truth, or the best interests of pwMS, in their hearts or minds.
