Question for those in the UK

Post by Jaded »

Hi

Would anyone know of a doctor in the UK who is prepared to prescribe Valtrex to someone with MS?

Many thanks

Hi Jaded
Unless you are elderly, just about any GP should be able to prescribe it.
There is a warning in the BNF about possible neurological complications with the old - so a GP might want to monitor someone with MS.
Probably best to start with a good pharmacist who should be able to quantify the risk.

Thanks Geoff

My GP does not generally let me have anything that isn't approved for MS. I thought all GPs were the same.

I am seeing her next week and shall ask.

Thanks again.

Well I saw her and asked and she did consider it - looked at the warnings and the neurological effects as you pointed out Geoff.

She said she didn't like the side effects and then said that as she was a general practitioner she wasn't trained to give me the required follow-up. :(

So no valtrex!
