A few answers about ms thanks
A few answers about ms thanks
Hi all, hope you can answer a few questions thanks.
With eye problems is the blurred only in distance or in reading or in both?
Can MS effect 3 or 4 parts of the body on the same side at the same time ( ie, left hand, left calf, dizzy, toes, fingers etc)
And do the symptoms stay for 10mins, or days or weeks months?
Thanks
For your time

Hi,
The answer is yes to all variations of those question.
Can it be something else rather than MS? The answer is yes to that as well.
I hope you are not self diagnosing.

Hi,
Ask for a health checkup covering "low grade" infections, full blood examination, fecal test and nutrional deficiencies.
Don't guess, find out.

Hi,
So mycoplasma, chlamydia Pn, Lyme (if in your area) and EBV are all done? Vits B12, D, A are normal. All kidney function tests are normal. You did a fecal test and they found absolutely nothing?
Those tests are simple neurological tests. What did they say about those?
You have no other conditions that should be considered?

6 weeks ago, had a lot of drinks and watching a band! On the way home staggered a bit walking, then allmost home my right leg gave out, no pain, leg felt normal but no strengh to take the wait! Ambulance took me to a public hospital, they did a 10min physical of me! 3 hours later leg felt good and we walked out. They said was cauced by intoxicated! Wife next day took me to her doctor who sent me to a private hospital, who did all the tests as above plus urine test, MRI of lower back (my hips that day felt like a truck had hit me) fold a minor buldge disk but ok they said! They did a CT scan of brain looking for a stroke or simular! Asked heaps of questions and asked about Ms in my family (none)! Up till that day i was fine and fit, even brought a new mountain bike that week and put a few kms into it. Hospital then sent the physio down to spend one hour with me, he said a new bike could of been the culprit! Then i went home and started googling MS! And since then i have funny things happening, not sure if its in my head or not? Tingling in toes after my morning 4am shower! Funny feeling in calf at work, 3rd finger shakes every now and then, dizzy all the time but not dizzy as in fall over fuzzy kind, tired cold easily stay in bed! Now one eye is struggling as in distance (had my eyes checked last week optometrist said eyes are good for 45years old but will need long distance glasses in 2 years time, she took photos of eyes said very good) And with the fogged head i have popping ears all day every day now! Been back to my wifes doctor who said no need for mri of the head its not ms, went to my own doctor, who said same thing allmost word for word, went to a 3rd doctor (never seen b4) said stop googling and offered 4 free council sessions with a mental doctor! Said its Anxiety!! But why at 45years of age would Anxiety click in? Thats why i asked the question on this forum for today!
Sorry about so long story

Hi,
Well, I'd never say never but its sounds like a nerve problem rather than MS. That, of course, could mean anything.
Go to a good massage place and get them to go over you and look for tightness. If you symptoms continue then kick up a fuss and get seen again.
The vision might be coincidental. At 45, when it goes it just goes. Happens to most of us but its very annoying. They can look at it and see a beautiful eye but it's the muscles around it that let you down.
How's your blood pressure, particularly when you are dizzy?

Scott is correct. I second his recommendation for a full set of vitamin B12 tests. These include serum B12, red blood cell (RBC) folate, homocysteine and methylmalonic acid (MMA). Do not accept simply being told that your levels are "normal." You need to know your actual numbers so be sure to ask for your test results. The standard range for B12 is usually around 200-950 pg/mL. However, the low end of the range is much too low and includes people who are actually deficient. In contrast, in Japan, the bottom end of the B12 range starts at 500 pg/mL. A vitamin B12 deficiency can cause many neurological symptoms and can mimic MS in many ways including lesions on an MRI scan. The only way to distinguish B12 deficiency from MS is to get tested for B12 deficiency.

Hi,
I said fecal test as blood tests don't always find a culprit. We live in a mobile world. Bugs can sometimes be found living in the gut that don't show up on a blood test.
If your blood pressure has changed for no logical reason then measure it a little more regularly and compare it with the reading when you don't feel so well. It may be a very useful guide. It will be more objective than just saying to a doctor that you don't feel right.

I also support the recommendation of Scott1 and NHE: request your doctor to conduct testing for nutrient deficiencies.NHE wrote:Scott is correct. A Vitamin D deficiency is common; scientists estimate it is found in 50% of the general population worldwide.
It is estimated that 40% of the American population has suboptimal levels of vitamin B12. The risk of both deficiencies increases with age.
It seems logical to start with these tests – the prevalence of MS is a much lower percentage (and there is no definitive test for MS – MS can only be considered after the other possible causes have been ruled out, but there are tests for these other conditions). Also, as NHE has said, it is important to request your own copy of any test results.

Hi went to the doctors today and talked about vitamin D and B12! You guys were right full bloods look at it but not in depth! He said after my vacation to come back for blood tests! I said what about now, answear was have to fast 12 hours and come of nexium!
Just a question too, shopping today and both hands and forearms felt strange as in tight! Is a hot day today around 36 degrees, and a 2km round trip walk to the shops.
Strange for both arms and hands?
Doctor still thinks Anxiety!
My wife says stop talking and googling it, driving her mad!
Cheers
