Undx help please.

Post by edsgal »

Hello.

I am a 47 year female. Been sick for 15 plus years. I was sent to a MS clinic when it first started. Had evoked potentials and head and spine MRI without contrast. Also did a neuro exam with a neuro psychologist. They ordered an EEG but I didn't get it done. I am not sure what the results of the MRI and EP were I assumed negative because they said the test results did not point to MS oh and by the way have some Zoloft.

Some symptoms:
Burning skin sensation. Kinda like a cold burn like when you put dencorub on, but a lot more intense. Sometimes just like a hot burn.
Prickly skin sensation.
Head lice sensation (hubby is over 'check my hair' alittle paranoid lol) and ants crawling on body feel.
fatigue.
Insomnia.
Weakness in legs like a weird jelly sensation.
Vibrating sensation.
Blurry vision.
Very, very minimal shakes all over body making me a little clumsy. This comes and goes throughout the day.
Tight muscles.
Brain fog.

Most of this disappears and then reappears out of nowhere or when I am hot or stressed.

I have not seen another specialist since but have seen a couple of doctors in-between.

ANA negative
celiac panel negative
B12 low (have been having injections and/or tablets for years now) currently in the 600s and still having issues.
Addisons negative.
Basically every blood test imaginable for every disorder possible. Only thing that comes up is elevated platelets every now and again. And the occasional elevated ESR.

So my quetion is:
Do I ask for another MRI so I can positively rule out MS once and for all? I don't think it is MS, but it's always just there in the corner of my mind. Or do others think 'save your money'. No chance of MS. And any other ideas?
My issues aren't disabling, just affect my life a little. I still work full time but don't have much of a life after work when I am going through the symptoms.

Thankyou for reading, Judy :)

Hi Judy,

If you have been sick for 15 years and these are your symptoms I would make sure you have been able to rule out infection.

In particular check for mycoplasma. Also check for borrelia and babesia which are confections often found with Lyme infection. Don't stop at a blood test. Get a bowel test as well as there are many infections that will happily live for years in that area and slowly do you damage.

If you can, get a fasting amino acid study done to see if you have adequate levels of all amino acids as infections can scavenge them before you can utilise them.
Buy the very best (probably most expensive) behind the counter probiotic you can afford and use it every day (forever). If you have been sick for so long there is a fair chance that you have depleted your gut flora through the use of antibiotics.
You can chase many other avenues but if you can not absolutely say that infections can be ruled out then you may never recover if you don't treat identify and treat them.

Hi Scott

Thankyou for your advice. I see a brilliant naturopath who prescribes me a probiotic among other things. Will have to see if she can test for the amino acids when I see her on Tuesday.

I haven't taken antibiotics since I was little. I never get a cold, get the start of one for a couple of hours and that's it :)

Just having a quick look at the infections you suggested. Will look into them a little more in the morning (I'm in Australia, so heading off to bed now)

Again, thankyou. You have given me food for thought.

Hi Judy,

I'm in Melbourne. Hope you haven't the NSW rain.

You might need a doctor for the tests. The amino acid test is not done often here. Usually a pathology lab collects it and someone else does it. Try ringing Doravitch or Healthscope directly.
