Shouldn't a doctor say what KIND of MS she has??

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Shouldn't a doctor say what KIND of MS she has??

Post by EngagedToMS »

So my fiancée was diagnosed in June. I keep asking her if she has asked her doctor what kind of MS she has (it is difficult getting her to heed my requests, she has ABSOLUTE faith in her quacks, I'm afraid tnat what tnese clowns are, or maybe Italian doctors treat MS differently) but she keeps neglecting to do so. Shouldn't they have told her at this point??? One more question; last night when we were Skyping, she had a nosebleed and blood in her urine. Could that be MS related? I know of the bladder problems but a nosebleed, too? Thank you in advance!

That doesn't sound normal. She needs to see a doctor ASAP, urgent care or ER.

Hi,
The blood in the urine is not about MS. Go straight to a doctor.
Forget about trying to define the MS. Deal with the bleeding. It's much more important.

It's easy to blame every problem on MS. But having MS does not make us immune to other illnesses. Blood in the urine might be a urinary tract infection. If she also has a burning sensation I would suspect a UTI. That can be cleared up with antibiotics. So she should see her family doctor about that asap. He can also give her something that will relieve the discomfort.

As to the type of MS she has, it could be difficult to determine this soon. She needs to watch the progression of the disease over the coming months or years. The types of MS are listed here http://www.nationalmssociety.org/What-is-MS/Types-of-MS

If she has relapses and remissions then she probably has relapsing remitting MS.

If she used to have relapses and remissions, but doesn't anymore then she probably has secondary progressive MS.

If she does not have relapses and remissions now and never did then she has primary progressive MS.

But it's probably too soon to make that determination.

Anther indicator is the age of onset. Any type of MS can start at any age, but most commonly RRMS begins in the early to mid thirties. PPMS usually starts in the late thirties to mid forties.

Hope that helps.
