Twitching left leg, pain in both legs.

Post by oddity »

I have not been diagnosed with MS. I have had an abnormal brain MRI with small numerous lesions found. I have had a clean spinal tap. I am going for a thoracic spine MRI next week and another brain MRI the following week. My last neuro appointment with an MS specialist said my lesions were not consistent with MS that is why she is having me repeat the brain MRI on a more powerful 3T machine and having me do the spine MRI. All of my lab work is clean as well. I believe the thorough physical exam the neurologist gave me was fine as well.

Currently the main symptom I have is occasional twitching in my left leg, mainly the lower part of my leg. But, yesterday I went for a 2 mile jog and later that evening my leg twitches quite a bit and then I start to get twitching in my right leg as well. Then, the worst part is, a sort of burning pain in both legs around the thigh area. I also get cold pain in both my calves on occasion.

One year ago I was completely fit and could run 10 miles with no issues.

Does this sound like MS?

Have you looked into benign fasciculation syndrome? It involves most of what you've said, including exercise intolerance. There's an entire forum dedicated to it.

But the lesions are concerning. How old are you, if I may ask? Many middle-aged and older folks from my understanding have age-related lesions. If the radiologist/neuro don't think they are consistent with MS lesions, they could be caused by age-related issues or other things—sorry I can't be more specific.

Hi, I'm a 46 year old male. Yes, I have heard about BFS and Restless Leg Syndrome. I had a thoracic MRI last week which came out normal. Today I had my 6 month brain MRI w/wo contrast in a 3T machine. I should have the results in a few days. If this new brain MRI shows the same lesions that the neuro feels are not MS related then I am at a loss. I will have to have some serious discussions with her as to what she feels is going on with me. I do have an appointment with a rheumatologist the beginning of may.

I'm in the medical field and I review MRI interpretations everyday and yes, many people my age have some type of lesions. Usually this is because of diabetes, hypertension, smoking, etc. I do not fall into any of these categories. I guess I am a conundrum.
