Welcome to ThisIsMS, tmtippins.

In view of the following recent article, I wonder if your vitamin D (25-hydroxy D) level has been tested:

Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Concentrations ≥40 ng/ml are Associated with >65% Lower Cancer Risk: Pooled Analysis of Randomized Trial and Prospective Cohort Study
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/articl ... ne.0152441

GrassrootsHealth found an inverse association between vitamin D serum levels and all non-skin cancer.

I am not knowledgeable about multiple myeloma specifically, but find the following video interesting – perhaps you would, too:

Dr. Cedric Garland – Does Vitamin D Prevent Cancer interview by Carole Baggerly (11 min.), Feb 2014:

Breast cancer, for example, is a vitamin D deficiency; it happens that it is also true of colon cancer, it happens that it is also true of pancreatic cancer. And it's largely true of ovarian cancer, cancer of the brain; it's true with adult leukemia, bladder cancer, and it's true of cancer of the kidney.

@4:08 What about those people, who have the misfortune of already either having or having had cancer, is it of any benefit then?
It is of striking benefit. We've just had a paper accepted that shows that…

And now I have found this:
From http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10. ... 15.1039866

"In the last decade, analyses of UVB irradiance and cancer incidence in countries worldwide have shown a regular pattern of higher rates for countries that are further away from the equator compared to those near the equator. This pattern has held true for cancers of the colon, breast, pancreas, ovary, brain, bladder, kidney, and multiple myeloma."

Are low ultraviolet B and vitamin D associated with higher incidence of multiple myeloma?

If you have not had a vitamin D test, consider requesting one from your doctor. If your D level is below 40 ng/mL, show and discuss the article above with your doctor (a higher serum vitamin D level may help fight the multiple myeloma).
