I've relapsed again but no one will help

Post by Desperatemomma03 »

In the spring of 2014 I began having symptoms of extreme fatigue and dizziness. It got so bad I didn't want to drive. Then in Aug it got so severe that my headaches were causing vision loss and numbness in my arms and legs with a lot of weakness too. My emotions then came into play. I started having severe anxiety unexplained. I finally gotna MRI that should multiple lesions on my brain. I was only 32, slender active blonde, so I was sent to 3 different top neurologist and no one could help me. The last dr that would finally help me because the other two felt like I needed the best neurologist we had here in Chattanooga, said it didn't look like MS at the time and just wrote me off. It took 2 years to begin to feel normal. I have had a good year except some minor relapses a, one where my muscles spasmed in my arms for days and wouldn't release, I went to the dr for that, they checked my potassium and magnesium which all came back fine. Now for the last week I have been hit hard! It came last Thursday with extreme fatigue, then dizziness, muscle weakness as culmsiness and now my headaches are back full force. I feel so helpless. I want someone to help me. I have 3 children, I work full time as a stylist and I just want my life back. Should I request another MRI to see if there are more lesions or find a dr that will help me. I'm desperate!!!! We almost went through a divorce last year because I was so sick and my husband didn't think I wanted him and began having an affair. I didn't like talking about my sickness because it upset him so I stayed quiet and suffered silently. Can anyone help me on the next steps to take??? I can't keep living like this and the fear of my symptoms staying for months again is terrifying.

hey there, all sounds frustrating :S just wondering, do you have your specific magnesium result on file? and the normal range the lab was using?
for a lot of what you're dealing with, it does sound like mag could be suspect. mag results are often misinterpreted. would be best to really rule that out with certainty if you can.

Hello Desperatemomma03,

It would be important, for you, to understand that your symptoms can be caused by any number of things. MS may or may not be the right answer. There is no symptom exclusive to MS. There is no test that is definitive for MS. Brain lesions can be caused by many things, including headaches/migraines. Being told brain lesions don't look like MS isn't uncommon since MS lesions have a certain look.

When a Neurologist suspects MS repeat MRIs are usually redone every 6 months to a year. If it has been that long since your last MRI and you are still concerned about MS then it would be reasonable to have another MRI.

You say you are having relapses, but relapses of what? Many issues can cause relapses. You are assuming it's MS relapses but at this point you don't have a diagnosis of MS and it might not be MS. Headaches that cause vision loss might be Ophthalmic/ocular migraines. If concerned about your vision seeing an Ophthalmologist would be a good idea.

Have you tried taking medications for you Anxiety? Emotional states, fear, uncertainly, thoughts, ect. can cause anxiety and anxiety can happen out of the blue with no reason. Anxiety can also cause body wide physical symptoms and some of those symptoms can mimic Neurological symptoms. Treating anxiety through medications and Psychotherapy has the potential to decrease and/or resolve a person's symptoms.
