Galectin-3, a rising star in modulating microglia activation under conditions of neurodegeneration:
-Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a pleiotropic protein that binds to β-galactoside residues present in glycoproteins.
-Gal-3 is mainly expressed and released in the damaged brain by reactive microglia.
-Gal-3 interacts with immune receptors like TREM2 and TLR4.
-Gal-3 appears upregulated in the transcriptomic profile of microglia in distinct neurodegenerative environments.

PS: potent Galectin 3 inhibitor is Pectin widely available as supplement

Thanks Dim
Regarding the earlier posts on cholesterol, all I know is that in the past couple of years my health has taken a nosedive. And my cholesterol has increased - it used to be 4.3 then crept up to 4.9 then broke the 5 mark two years ago.
I have higher HDL, which is 'good' cholesterol but not necessarily a good sign according to the British Heart Foundation
If I had those readings and felt well I wouldn't be concerned....

Hi Jaded,
Here's one article that discusses LDL particle size. There are many more available.

Im sorry to hear that your LDL is high. Have you had an LDL particle size analysis? The large LDL particles are thought to be reletively benign. In contrast, the small dense LDL particles are the ones that are more problematic. An NMR cholesterol test, which determines particle size, is more advanced than the standard cholesterol test and can better evaluate your risk.Jaded wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 7:52 am Regarding the earlier posts on cholesterol, all I know is that in the past couple of years my health has taken a nosedive. The problem arises when you have high triglycerides and low HDL, triglycerides/HDL and apoC-III/apoB are much better indexes of cardiovascular issues
