Euphoria before attack
Euphoria before attack
Hi
Has anyone noticed that they feel really good and well just before a relapse like a real feeling of euphoria? I have noticed this has happened to me a few times now.
I can't work out if its because I feel well I do more hence bringing on an attack or if it is a biological/chemical thing.
Any ideas?

Hi LR1234
I have also noticed this..It's nearly like I'm hyper for a few days then a HUGE sudden crash in my energy.
Sometimes I feel it building up and if I don't go with the false energy I can avert the relapse a bit, but all you want to do is go wild with all the things you can't normally do.
I wonder what causes it....hmmm.

I am glad I am not the only one! I definately get this feeling of being really full of enery and hyper and about 4/5 days later I get that massive crash. I also tried last time to avert it when I recognised the feeling but had no luck. I wonder if it is our immune system becoming active in some way.

Hi.
I can't seem to find the study right now, but our body increases the production of beta endorphin during relapse, perhaps attempting to prevent it. It could be that endorphin boost that makes you feel that way.

Edit: I have found the study. Here it is:

Conclusions: A reduction of BE levels was present in patients with clinically inactive MS. Treatment with IFN-b seems to induce an increase of this opioid in PBMCs of MS patients. The increase of BE concentration during a clinical relapse may represent a possible control mechanism aimed at counterbalancing the inflammatory phase of the disease.

Thanks for posting that sue, that is really fascinating.
Wish my system made more beta endorphins because when they do hit, I can do nearly everything I want to. But just wish I could avoid the relapse that comes with it nearly every time.

Have either of you tried LDN? this all sounds similar to its method of action.Wonderfulworld wrote:Wish my system made more beta endorphins because when they do hit, I can do nearly everything I want to. But just wish I could avoid the relapse that comes with it nearly every time.
I do not get the euphoria before an attack, because my trigger before an attack is a cold/flu, so I feel pretty rubbish leading into an attack. And LDN did not appear to work for me personally either.

No Cure I've never tried LDN. Been too much of a sissy to come off DMD's - Rebif then Copaxone - mainly because my MS without DMD is aggressive, and because I've done very well on Copaxone. I would definitely try LDN if I ever have to stop Copaxone.

Thanks DIM, Loobie and Cure, that's one to think about.
I have only heard of one other Irish MS'er taking LDN and it's not available easily here I don't think, might email her to ask about it.
Being a worrier with a PhD in worrying, I would worry that the two would interact in some bizarre way in just me out of all the world.
