First Post - Lots of questions :) Solumedrol?

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

First Post - Lots of questions :) Solumedrol?

Post by shasta »

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here, just joined today and i'm really hoping i could ask some questions?

I'm in the process of seeing a neuro because of numbness on my left side, now more recently diagnosed with a case of optic neuritis by an ophthalmologist.

So, i've had the MRI done...but i'm still waiting to hear back from that. My regular doctor is pretty much convinced it is MS.

When my ophthalmologist took a look at my eye and the amount of pain i was in, he sent me that afternoon to start Solumedrol IV treatments. I did 500mg the first day, then 4 days of 1000mg. My last treatment was 2 days ago. I've read lots about the side effects and what to expect while getting the treatment done - but i'm wondering how long do these side effects last?? Right now it's been a little over 48 hours and i still feel like i'm burning up and my skin hurts to even touch it, almost like i'm bruised....although i am getting my appetite back. I tried to ask as many questions as a could but everything happened so fast that naturally i didn't think of everything i probably could have.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me! :)

It takes about a week for me to get back to normal after the solumedrol drips. Did you get an oral pack of prednisolone to use as a taper after the drips? If so that could prolong the side effects.

Thanks Marcia!

They didn't give me anything for a taper afterwards - i guess i just didn't completely know what to expect as i was coming off of the treatment.
