Those who have stents placed: How does it feel?

Hi all,

I am interested in knowing how it feels to have stents inside your jugular veins?

Are you aware of them all the time?

Do you feel something sharp when you turn your neck or when you are chewing food?

Is it something that is uncomfortable or annoying?

Or do you not notice them at?

Hi LR -

I have the left jug stented and the azygous stented. AT first I was able to feel both stents..not pain just awareness of somthing different. Now 6 1/2 wks out and the jug/neck feels normal, I can still feel the azygous stent. It could be because I have the MS Hug that tightens that part of my body. One symptom I would love to get rid of.

I think this will vary patient to patient. I can still feel mine on the right. I don't feel the left unless I tip my head down sharply. But my right one is still noticeable. 8 weeks for me

Jeff says if he moves his neck quickly or at a strange angle, he can feel a slight twinge-y kind of feeling...but he doesn't notice them in his day to day activities anymore. He has two on the left side, one on the right and is ten weeks out...

Eighteen days since surgery and not even a twinge of pain all day today. the only thing I have noticed is a tender spot in my neck that seems to be a slightly swollen gland on the stent side. Now the only real problem is the compass on the boat swings wildly when i pass. Just kidding. Cheers, Mark

Hi L1234!

I thought the other day that I could feel the stent in my left jugular when eating some rather chewy food but that has been a one off. The pain in the shoulders has been off the charts however and is only now settling down. I'm not sure what causes this pain but it has been hard lifting anything or playing the piano. Typing on my keyboard has been okay however. The veins have no sensory nerves in them so one shouldn't feel anything. It is the flesh outside the vein which causes the pain. When they opened the right hand stent it was agony. I think I cried out in pain as I hardly noticed or remembered the opening of the left hand stents. I guess they filled my drug dose up after the first stent.

I have the same feeling - not necessarily tender, but something like a swollen gland.

Go over to the thread http://www.thisisms.com/ftopict-7525.html I posted some info about shoulder pain. You are correct that it is the flesh outside the vein which causes the pain. The surgery has caused inflammation in the neck area which is causing the muscles to spasm ..unfortunately those muscles connect to the muscles in the shoulder ...spasm within a spasm!
