Dr Simka has a brand new paper about to be published, here is a powerpoint presentation he gave in Monaco just last week on this new work. How about that--this is going all over the place all at once with these wonderful researchers really putting themselves into it.
He explains well the CCSVI paradigm and includes some nice graphics that demonstrate things such as the tight junctions of the BBB and how these endothelial tissues could be damaged in the CCSVI model.
Interestingly, he feels that the important thing to note is that ischemia is the vital, key piece of the puzzle and treating early is key to success in that the permanent damage that may not be recoverable is avoided.
cool eh? let's talk about it!!

Here's a link I used to download a free Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 onto Windows XP in order to view Dr. Simka's presentation:

Tracey thank you so much
I am so glad you could help that way.
Rokkit I agree with you, I thought it was a great presentation and people may be able to use it for presentations to others to explain what CCSVI is, it is a good place to start for the curious it seems to me.
I could be so well versed in it though by now that I can't recognize something newbies can understand easily....

I'll echo terrific presentation. Think it's great the ischemia/hypoperfusion is emphasized.

Here's a quote from an article about Oxycyte (product delivers oxygen at about 4 times the rate of blood and is in clinical trials for traumatic brain injury)Interestingly, he feels that the important thing to note is that ischemia is the vital, key piece of the puzzle and treating early is key to success in that the permanent damage that may not be recoverable is avoided
Sharon"We do so many complicated things trying to heal injuries, but the simplest way is to improve the flow of blood and oxygen. At the end of the day, if tissue is starved of oxygen, it dies."
Thanks guys, but my contribution was small....unploading it to a website is a small price to pay for access to this work where usually such items are guarded jealously
We can all be really grateful to the wonderful Dr Simka for sharing this power point presentation with us. He has been unfailingly kind and generous with his work. We surely are not entitled to such a thing, it was a kindness on his part to share it so that we can have this resource available. Thanks Dr Simka!
Sharon, I agree that oxygenation can't be underestimated. The degree of ischemia had not been appreciated before in MS I do not think, but it is clearly an issue as part of CCSVI. I like the way it was presented as a key element to several processes at play.
good presentation
