Stents and MRI's

Post by ssmme »

I hope this isn't a stupid question but if you have metal mesh stents placed in your jugs can you still get MRI's? It seems that metal and MRI machines are not friends.

There isn't a stupid question. All questions are smart.. I haven't had the stenting, but other posters here tell me that the stents are made of non ferrous material, so there is no problem with MRIs.

The stents are not metals effected by magnets so are fine, they are made of nickel and I think titanium.

That's such a relief to know. I'm currently in the campath trial but after completing the treatment I'd like to consider being evaluated for CCVSI and possible stenting but I want to be able to continue getting mri's.

I've had 2 MRI's since my stents have been in place. No problem whatsoever. If they had any iron in them at all, I don't know how long they'd last anyway in such a 'wet' environment. I think they are a nickel titanium alloy.
