7 Tesla MR locations

Post by Montana »

I am trying to find the locations of the 7 Tesla MR machines. If the information on the web is correct, there are approximately 30 in the world. Does anyone out there know where the ones in the United States are besides Stanford, Detroit, Buffalo and UCSan Francisco?

Well, nothing is ever that easy. A week ago I knew nothing about CCSVI, but I'm learning thanks to thisisms.com. I have wondered if I could go ahead and get the studies done closer to home as a preliminary determination of what my juglular and azygous vein problems might be. I did not realize that even the MRI is a complicated issue.

A kind gentleman at a Western Medical School has been helpful. There are full size 7 Tesla machines for human use in only a few research facilities in the US. Others exist as small ones for animal research only. The common ones in most hospitals are 1.5 and 3. Known side effects are heat and increased pulse. Use of the 7 requires special shielded facilities and guidelines approved by the institution. Little is known about effects on the human body of an MRI as powerful as a 7.

Can anyone report some information about their experience in the stronger MR machine? Discomforts, aftereffects? Warnings?

7 telsa mri's

Post by mickb »

Hi Montana:

I was in a machine at Buffalo yesterday for about 2 hours. The tech said it was 1 of only 5 in the US. I think it was the 7 telsa (I asked but she didn't know). The wall / door way into the room looked like 2 in thick metal - yikes! Anyway, I didn't notice anything different during the MRI. The scans seemed to take longer. My brain scan alone took 45 minutes!.

I go back on Sat so I'll make more inquires.
