quetion re sending private messages

Hi all! New to the site (well have been lurking and reading like crazy for a while), but new to posting. Have been greatly inspired by posts from others.
Recently tried to send a private message..it show up in my out box, but not the sent box. Don't want to harrass the recipient with a bunch of messages, but how do I know if it has actually been sent?

I too would like to know the etiquette around PMs, is there something I should be aware of. I would hate to feel like I am badgering someone or jumping in head first without knowing of the "right way" to go about it.

just PM away, as far as i'm concerned. i've only ever had one person who emailed me so much i just started deleting things in batches without even reading them. accidentally deleted my whole in box because of that.. pretty annoying, i was saving those!
