CCSVI LECTURE CALGARY FEB 7- OVERVIEW

Post by Andie »

HI ALL

I will be brief but am happy to answer any/ all questions.

the lecure was video-taped and we were told it would be at found at the ms society of canada's website- both Calgary and Winnipeg's forums.

Overall- I would say Dr. Metz ( also my neurologist) is cautiously optimistic.

she would like to see more studies done- only one study has been done with 65 participants and she was able to identify some issues with the parameters of the study.

also- she doesn't hold much belief in the stents- and she gave medical basis why-- and please note I was the first to jump into this surgery if given a chance.- anyway- stents are to be used in vessels- not veins-- veins are just a vehicle for the blood flow and therefore not capable of keeping something solid in it's grips- hence the emergency surgery at Stanford where a stent dislodged and caused a heart attack.

overall- it was very informative and was a basis for on-going research and discussion.

please feel free to write to me.

(I hope that helped in a nut shell)

Thanks, Andie!

It's good to hear doctors are being more receptive.

Thanks Andie,

Any indication as to whether or not anyone in Alberta will be conducting tests into CCSVI? I've heard of UBC and St. Joseph's / McMaster but nothing from Edomonton or Calgary...? And was there any talk about why the MS Society is not willing to fund this to a greater extent?

study in Calgary or Edmonton

Post by Andie »

Hi

I got the impression both edmonton and calgary have proposed to take part in a study-now- it has to be determined which city will get it-- I'm not exactly sure who decides and when the decision is set for- but my understanding is that one of the cities will partake in the study..

Thanks. I hope we get a few sites all across Canada gathering data on CCSVI so that we get an answer that we can all trust!
