Lumbar puncture - can it adversely affect CCSVI?

I wondered if anyone has any idea or knows of any studies that would support the correlation between a lumbar puncture and worsening of CCSVI?

I ask because immediately following mine I was hit with horrible symptoms I did not have before that will not subside. Since the spinal fluid pressure changes during the spinal tap procedure I wondered if it is possible for that to affect the blood flow through the "veins that drain the brain"?

Just speculating and trying to make sense of it all.

I had similar issues. LP can cause inflammation I would imagine so maybe that could cause a problem with symptoms x

And yes, it matters to me or I wouldn't have posed the question.

I wouldn't have done the LP if I thought it would make matters worse and perhaps that knowledge could save someone else the heartache. (if it actually turns out to be a fact that LP can make CCSVI worse in some people)

Didn't Zamboni have a paper published about altered CSF fluid dynamics in m.s.? I've only read the abstract and don't understand much yet but I agree that the blood drainage definitely affects the CSF circulation. So I would think the reverse might be true as well.

It seems like low blood pressure is a possible characteristic of CCSVI to begin with...not sure whether this is as a result or a contributing cause of the entangling veins...but I'd place a reduction in CSF in with having low blood pressure as having the same effect on CCSVI, whatever that effect is.

Well, i dont think anyone should not undergo the LP in order to avoid the mind splitting headaches that follow. I spent about 2 weeks in hell after the LP but i feel i had to do it. After all i know my CSF is messed up because of this.

As much as i want to believe in CCSVI, the diagnostics should not be altered just yet for people with CIS ;)

If the majority of PwMS are found to have CCSVI, and I would guesstimate that many many of them have had LP's, then if there was a worsening of CCSVI as a result of an LP, and CCSVI is found to cause MS symptoms, I would imagine that much research would exist to note a correlation between having an LP and a worsening of neurological symptoms since LP's are given to diagnose neurological symptoms.

Since there hasn't been any obvious association drawn between having an LP and worsening neurological symptoms immediately following it, I doubt an LP affects CCSVI in any significant way.

That's just my logical reasoning at work, no other basis for my opinion.

Hi Costume,
people get headache after spinal tap because the brain normally float into spinal fluid and when you remove some, things shift and the base of the brain might touch bony structures.
This is easily avoided by injecting the same volume of saline back.
If you ever need another one ask about that to the person performing it.
