1. Do long URLs always have to create a situation where horizontal scrolling is required from then on in the thread? Do links only work if they don't wrap?
2. I would like to have "newest first" set on all threads? Can I do that or do they each have to be set separately? I didn't find it in profile settings.

as for the 'newest first' question-- are they not ordering themselves that way by default? I'm not an expert in this forum software, but for me it seems the topics with new replies always are on top, and I didn't have to set anything.
If that doesn't work, you could always use the dropdown from the bottom of each forum that shows post from the last 'x' days -OR- in the upper right hand corner of the main forum where it says 'show posts since last visit'

Right, the threads with new posts are listed first but the default is "oldest first" within each thread. I'd like the default to be "newest first" but can't find any place to change it. Your answer about long/short urls is for posting your own but other peoples' make horizontal scrolling required. Sometimes, the text doesn't even fit across the screen at all. Makes it really hard to read. Thanks anyway. I obviously get by and love this site.

Agreed, I have copied out the text of horizontal scrolling threads into MS Word in order to make them readable. I wish this wasn't necessary and that everybody would use the alternate means of adding a long URL as Arron suggested. It only takes a few extra keystrokes and would make reading these threads so much easier. Another option would be to use a service such as http://tinyurl.com to make shorter URLs. However, there might be a solution. That is, it might be possible to add a limit to the length of a URL to some number of characters such that it prevents the threads from horizontal scrolling. It would seem that this might be accomplished through a short piece of javascript that checks the length of the URL before the message is added to the thread.
