Adderall for Fatigue

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

I've read a lot of posts about Provigil over time. Kim takes it with good results - Shazam WoW! Others so so........ So, I can say that the effect seems to vary with different folks. If it doesn't work for you, try something else.

This does however have me wondering, what makes it work better for some and is the reason somehow related to the possibility that MS has multiple causes? How's that for an imponderable?

Another imponderable for PetaKitty: Do the German's always make good stuff?

It would be really nice to be able to put links in here

If I have included a bad link, google the word "Scholar", click link for "Google Scholar". Search for the name of the paper and author in Google Scholar.

I tried both Amantidine and the big P and neither of them touched my fatigue. I definitely suggest trying something because if you don't you'll never know what works.

Maybe. I do feel that there is a very significant impact that results from recommendations. The most dissapointing restaurant adventures are when your friend calls you and tells you that you absolutely MUST try this place. Your expectations are so high that it's impossible to meet them. Then you end up feeling like it's just ..... ok.

Take Two - You'll say WOW Everytime!

ofcourse provigil works!
All right, I'll bite. Here's my rock...

Uh, not for me. Provigil makes my back spasm, it makes me grind my teeth and gives me a massive migraine. All of that for a quick surge that dies out within an hour or so and leaves me feeling foggy and hung over.

I'm on my first week of ritalin and I can say that its better. Not awesome but better. It does make me irritable and I'm still completely beat by the time I get home from work. So instead of my boss saying "you need to quit forgetting things" or "wake up", I'm getting "you need to stop being so pissy". So yea, I want to keep my job and not go on disability so I need something to keep me going. And if my doctor agrees then I will try adderal after I give ritalin a fair shot.

As for "wanting" a perk, thats kind of insulting. Obviously insulting enough that I registered to this site just to respond to this.

But I'm trying to make it through a work day. I want the ability to arrive home at 6:30 and be able to cook dinner and do a load of laundry like a normal person and not fall asleep at a red light on my way there.

Provigil isn't the end all for fatigue. It doesn't work for everyone so it isn't fair to act like people wanting to try something else are just fat house wives that want to be able to clean the house faster and lose weight in the process. Not that you said it, just that you implied it.

Not defensive. Just a bit moody from the ineffective ritalin. Yup, I work and exercise and yes, I am trying to lose weight. Mostly so that one day I can possibly ovulate and maybe even have a baby. Should I apologize for that?

But do I think I am asking too much to be able to make it through a work day and still have enough energy to cook something for dinner? Nope I don't.

And yes, thats my blog. I wrote about losing weight a few times. And I don't write about my fatigue. I don't usually write about my MS symptoms unless I'm super frustrated. But if you were my doctor and had my medical records you would see my sleep studies and my history of fatigue dating back past 1999 which I have only now decided to treat only because it is affecting my job performance. If my doctor wants to put me on adderall then I will try it. Until then I'm not actively persuing it nor have I ever taken it before. Not much to be defensive about.

I just don't like the implication that people are abusing adderall for fun. MS patients take pain meds, muscle relaxers, etc. Are they abusing those as well? I don't think so. Its a medical treatment. Do I take any of those? Nope. Right now all I'm on is betaseron and birthcontrol. Not quite a pill seeker. But do I judge people who treat their pain with pain pills? Nope, I sure don't.

Well, thats my spill. This is why I don't post on forums. It just leads to a lot of arguing that doesn't really acomplish anything. I prefer my blog where I can bitch all I want with no feedback. :)

I am now on Adderall. It helps my MS fatigue much better than the Provigil. The added bonus is that it is $35 a month versus the $358 a month for Provigil.

If I lose weight that would even be better. We take what works for us as individuals, no 2 MS patients are the same.

Carepear, I understand the being moody when your meds are not effective. I wanted so bad for the provigil to work but it just did not work for me. So as long as the Adderall works I will keep taking it. I don't think it hurts to ask your Dr about it if you think it will help. You are the only one who knows exactly how you feel and if you don't speak out nobody will.

By the way this seems like a really nice forum. There are some forums that stress me out a little. This forum is real positive, makes me feel a little better reading the posts here.
Just reminding how nice and positive we are here at TIMS
Folks like carepear, sojourner and others deserve the same, stress free response....

I remember a year or two ago (can't remember exactly) I was SO tired and could not concentrate or think things through at work. When I was home, I was better because I didn't HAVE to do ANYTHING. I told my assistant "I need speed". That was before I even knew it was a possibility to actually get something prescribed for the problem. Somehow, I healed enough not to need it. (though I am still not back to pre-ms thinking or energy) For those who did get something prescribed- GOOD FOR YOU! I understand why 100%. I may feel the need for it again, and am glad to know I can get something to help.
Let me clarify. When I said "I need speed" I wasn't worried about my weight, or having super-human energy. I was feeling the need for something, ANYTHING, to help me get through the day without such horror.
