New to This Is MS

Post by Beki »

I received a magazine put out by the MS Society that recommended this Blog site. I thought I'd give it a try. I am 37 yrs old, married with a 5 year old daughter. I have been diagnosed with MS for 10 years. I feel that my disease is stable however I have been dealing with horrible pain for the past year. 3 different neurologists say it isn't "MS pain". I was sent to a Rheumatologist because of some abnormal labs, looking like it might be Lupus. He doesn't feel it's Lupus because I don't have any other physical symptom except for pain. I have been given the diagnosis of fibromyalgia but feel strongly that this is not the issue. I have been on all the meds to treat FM, no success, still pain. Currently I am on prednisone and Plaquinel....dr thinking it now could be a connective tissue disorder. I am curious to hear if people have had pain that is nearly debilitating with difficulty diagnosing the problem. I can't stand for more than 2-3 mins without my lower back and pelvis hurting, feels like pressure, burning, pulling twisting. Also severe pain in my legs and feet, feels like by bones are rotting away. I am at my wits end with doctors and feel at a loss as to "where" to go to find answers. This is just a "glimps" of me :-) Anyway, I hope maybe someone can give some insight/advice. Thank you - Beki

Beki – Welcome to our diverse group. You will find every sort of person and MANY different ideas about multiple sclerosis! You will fit in perfectly!

You have already been on this journey for 10 years; I assume you have found a good team of doctors – people you can trust and feel comfortable with. This is where we all start.

You mentioned "labs" so I assume that glucose, insulin, thyroid hormones, cortisol, among other hormone levels were checked.

The category of autoimmune diseases includes MS, lupus, and fibromyalgia, as well as about 80 other diseases.

Pain is not my particular symptom, but with MS each of us seems to have our own unique condition.

I suspect that excess insulin production plays a major role in MS. In time, you will develop your own hypothesis. We welcome your thoughts, your shared experiences, and your questions. Welcome aboard.
