Exercise causes muscle pain/tightness

Post by KClay »

I am determined to remain as strong as I can in my fight against MS. Currently, exercise leaves me stiff and miserably sore for several days--making my workouts spread out farther than I'd like. I have switched to working out in a pool, but again the pain and stiffness is leaving me uncomfortable. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?

hi there k :) sorry to hear you're having trouble

one suggestion: try a high magnesium diet, plus supplements if necessary.

magnesium can be too low in ms patients. reasons for mag to be low include: diet, alcohol, diuretics (coffee, tea, or others), pharmaceuticals, diarrhea (or other GI complaints), sweating from exercise, disease, etc.

research suggests we need to try for 900 mg intake per day.

food source suggestions:
-boiled swiss chard (1c = ~150mg),
-boiled spinach (1c = ~150mg),
-baked halibut (4 oz = ~150 mg)
-baked chinook salmon (40z = ~150 mg)

if you need supplements, magnesium glycinate is the best form i've found so far (with help from shye :) ). other forms like mag oxide, mag citrate, are more or less soluble but still run the risk of diarrhea due to relative insolubility. mag glycinate is chelated for max solubility.

aim for serum magnesium levels greater than 0.91 mmol/L.

hope that helps!

This won't be popular, it's an answer I hate myself. You might try breaking it up.
Try only doing 5 minutes at a time a day.
Or just doing less than your doing now.
Then building up.
I always try to do too much
