New to MS

Post by Landress »

Hi Everyone:

I just received my MRI results with lesions consistent with MS. I am going for a spinal tap today. I am a 49 year old female.

I have been unwell for 3 months now, with all kinds of different symptoms, that have came and gone. No treatment offered so far from the Neuro that is diagnosing me. Although, even if he had, I will pretty much try and stay away from drugs and work with diet and supplements if I can.

My questions I have to this forum is this....

I have been on Paxil for 15 years, which is known to cause issues with the CNS, but I have been unable to find any "medical" references to this online. I am wondering if anyone here has been on this drug long term? I have been wanting to get off it, for quite some time now, but it is not easy to do because of the withdrawal side effects, which are very similar to MS symptoms. I am worried about managing MS with this drug in my system.

The other issue is my current state. The neuro wouldn't answer any questions about my current state, saying that he doesn't manage MS and that I would have to wait until I have an appointment at the MS Clinic. What a great doctor...sigh.

What I want to know is what kind of MS do I have?????

I have had symptoms now for three months, with one symptom getting better, only to have something new pop up right away.

Started with:

Left side waist down numb - resolved
Double Vision - resolved
Brain Fog - has not resolved

Then:

Half my head went numb with neuralgia pain in ear, then made its way to my temple- resolved
Same side down to my left hand numb particularily in fingers...small muscle control not working well - Not resolved

Now:

Numb from waist down both sides, particularly in my feet
Feet are perceived as freezing cold all at times
Legs feel heavy and weak and my gait is unsteady
Couldn't run if my life depended on it
Mild Headache feeling on left side of head - started yesturday
Still have brain fog or whatever it is
Still have left arm and hand numb
Fatigue so bad, its a big deal to get a shower and dressed.

Hi Lynne,
Welcome to ThisIsMS. I hope that you find it to be a supportive community. I can't really comment about any of your symptoms, but hope that the doctors at the MS clinic will be able to give you more definitive answers.

Thanks for your welcome!

I am sure I wrote too much in my introduction...lol.

I have so many questions, and maybe one question a time would get me more responses.

Hi Lynne,
Many people find it helpful to write all their symptoms and concerns down. That way, when you do talk with the docs at the MS clinic, you won't forget something that you may have wished to discuss with them.
