Liberal versus liberty versus liberation

Post by 1eye »

It seems something of an insult to be called Liberal in the United States. The word has lost its former meaning. While their grandfathers may have fought and died for unions, belonging to the Wobblies, looking for universality, those things are frowned on now by a lot of people.

In fact in Canada the Liberal party has become a party of pragmatism, and is just as likely to be right-wing as anything else. There is no coherence between the Federal (National) party and the Provincial party, where there is any Liberal party at all of significance.

What does this have to do with CCSVI? It is the federal Liberal party that the great Dr. Kirsty Duncan is a member of. She can and does do pwCCSVI a lot of good, in the official opposition, and I'm sure she will be in Cabinet soon.

The Provincial liberals have shown themselves to be a disgrace where CCSVI is concerned. The new panel, which will probably come up with some neurologist-approved recommendation about funding after-care for CCSVI procedures done outside Canada, is their handiwork. Its makeup is no surprise given the level of leadership that has come from the current Provincial government.

Unlike the Federal Liberal Opposition the Provincial government is run by a party that are only calling themselves Liberals. The similarity ends there. They are pragmatists and it seems like a good name to call themselves. So when you are faced with an Ontario ballot, think of Deb Matthews, not Dr. Duncan.
