New to this site, just diagnosed

Hi: I was diagnosed with MS (spinal cord) last week. I don't know too much about it yet but I'm hoping this site can educate me.

I'm 39 years old and my first attack was in 2008 (although I didn't know it was MS back then). In late 2010, the left side of my body went numb for a few weeks and then I had what felt like electricity buzzing through my left arm. I went to my regular doctor and she suspected MS. After a few tests and an MRI, I was told it was MS.

I love the outdoors... especially hiking.. and I'm a Zumba instructor. For those of you who have never heard of Zumba, it's a Latin inspired dance fitness class. I wonder what my life will be like in 5, 10, 15 years from now. I am scared but I try not to show it. I'm thinking that a lot of people on this site can relate.

Yes, spine only between c2 and c4. I'm not sure what that means yet... I'm still waiting to see a specialist.

C2 and C4 are the second and fourth cervical vertebrae. These are found in the neck region of the spine. The cervical region of the spinal chord is a common region for MS lesions. The vertebrae are divided up into different groups, from top to bottom - cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral. There is also the cocygeal region which makes up the tailbone.

Thanks NHE - that was really helpful and explains why my neck has been sore and stiff for a long time.

I've read that nutrition can have an affect on people with MS. I love all foods and am wondering if there is a specific diet that most people with MS follow. Are there any items I should be avoiding?

normally they would need to look for brain and spine lesions to confirm ms. that's interesting that you've been dx'd with just two spinal lesions.

have a read of my signature links (below) for dietary recommendations by others. you could also look up terry wahls, swank diet, paleo diet, etc.
