false hopes vs false hopelessness

Post by Cece »

I hadn't heard this before, it's from Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, a physician who also had cancer, in discussion of alternative treatments for cancer:

"We should be careful to avoid false hopes. However I think it is just as important not to fall into false hopelessness!"

Always expect the worst, and you will never be disappointed. Still, hope for the best.

You cannot treat a vascular malformation with a drug. So much of the research presented at AAN was drug treatment. New drugs, old drugs, combo drugs.

A hypothesis that MS is autoimmune is interesting, and there is immune involvement in this disease and so the researchers have gone down that path, but it is nothing more than a hypothesis, and the hoax would be in declaring the hypothesis to be proven.

It's time to use Occam's razor http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/G ... occam.html to shave away the more complex and unsupported of the two competing theories of MS.
In veterinary medicine we say if you are standing in a heard of horses don't look for zebras...........In it's most pure sense using Occam's razor separates fact from fiction. in medicine if there are two competing theories for why something is happening the simpler one should be chosen......The vascular theory is the simpler of the two and so it may be assumed to be the correct one until proven otherwise. they have had 70 years and hundreds of millions of (advertizing) dollars spent and they haven't shown the autoimmune theory to be valid. They have found no proof. In fact the proof has been steadily mounting against it. As WaYne so famously said it is time to go"neuro free" if they continue with what DrBart so aptly named, their willful ignorance.

In my estimation the biggest problem is that they have foresaken all other avenues of research in favor of autoimmune. So if the autoimmune theory is wrong then all the dogs are barking up the wrong tree and they have no chance of finding the right answer. 20 years- no answer, 30 years -no answer, eternity and still no answer. Then along came Dr. Zamboni and now we have hope. At the very least Dr. Zamboni has redirected research into an area that has been neglected for far too long.

Oh yeah, hopelessness is the worst part of MS. Give someone a horrible disease like MS and then tell them there is no hope. That's the pits!

The sermon in church two weeks ago was about hope and how we as human beings need hope. I couldn't agree more.
