Book - Overcoming MS
Have any of you read the book Overcoming MS by Prof. George Jelinek? Any opinions? I would like to try to fight this with more natural means. Or by ANY means that I can. But I don't really like the med.

I have read the Overcoming MS book and like all the many other books I have read, it is a good read but it is worth reading other books as well as each one offers unique topics.

And may I ask do you take medication for MS. Or do you prefer to handle it in a healthier life style? I'm not sure I want to take the med. I don't have many symptoms. But I don't want any more white matter in my brain either.

I follow the Swank diet more or less as that is what Jelinek based his work on. OMS was too strict for my tastes. I am a tall lean guy and if I don't keep up my protein and calorie intake I get un-comfortably skinny. Right now I eat over 3000cal, 200g of protein and less than 15g sat. fat and I am 6'3 185lbs with 11% bodyfat. I take Copaxone, LDN, and a handful of other supplements.

Here's just a quick clarification about your comment, above:
"White matter" is only some of the tissue that makes up one's brain -- and other parts of the brain are made up of "gray matter." So...you don't really want to get rid of your white matter, but instead, you "don't want any more" lesions on your brain's white matter & gray matter or spine or anywhere else.

Dx'd with MS & HNPP (hereditary peripheral neuropathy) 7/03 but must have had MS for 30 yrs before that. I've never taken meds for MS except 1 yr experiment on LDN. (I found diet, exercise, sleep, humor, music help me the most.)

I read the book and started the diet. Apart from not eating meat and dairy I also avoided eating bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. So my diet was mostly Fish and Vegetables.
After some months I went from 80 to 65kg and I didn't have too much energy to make exercise and the three pillars of the OMS method are Diet, Meditation and Exercise, so I decided to loose on the diet up to a point where I can make exercise with enough intensity and regularity (exercise is what, currently, helps me more with MS symptoms)
Now I eat meat three or four times per week and I'm more relaxed about crude olive oil and nuts (which are mostly pro-inflammatory omega-6 fats). But I hope making exercise compensates for this.
My diet is now heading from OMS to Paleo. When I reach the 70kg I will consider other options like intermitent fasting combined with Paleo.
I'm not taking DMDs, I want to be responsible of my own health and not leave in the hands of doctors of drug companies who put more weight in their financial interests than in the health of their patients.
Even for vocational doctors who really want to help, an MS patient is frustrating because it is very difficult that he will ever improve. There is not much that doctors can do for us but offering the standard DMD procedure.

Hi; not read that book but brought Judy Graham book ms naturally follow the best bet diet no dairy,gluton, low fat, no sugar its hard but i'm not any meds feel much better than when i was on meds, do taichi, horse riding great for the balance.

I'm beginning to think I'll eat fruits, veg, lean meat, a little coconut oil, and nuts. There are so many diets. But that seems like a good one. OMS seems too low in fat. We need that for the fat soluble vits. What do you think? And I'm debating on the med. I still have an itchy rash from it, after 3 wks. Seems to me my body is saying "don't take this".

I take Copaxone and have changed my diet, take supplements, have changed my lifestyle and exercise a lot - in other words I do everything possible.
