If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

vaccinations

Post by mmpetunia »

Given the recent hysteria in the news about vaccines it occurred to me that I should probably spend some time informing myself of which vaccines are appropriate for me to have. The NMSS gives very conflicting recommendations for vaccinations. My neuro told me to stay away from all live vaccines but that others were safe. The NMSS says the same and then goes on to recommend multiple live vaccinations to PwMS including MMR (confusing much?!): http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Living ... ccinations

I am considering having titers drawn for MMR because about 15 years ago I discovered I did not have immunity despite being vaccinated as a child. Given that there have been measles outbreaks nearby and the fact that I am now on Tec, which could theoretically leave me vulnerable I would like to increase my understanding of vaccinations and their benefits for PwMS.

The research that they present is research that shows vaccines are not responsible for *causing* MS but there doesn't seem to be much evidence that supports the idea that vaccines cannot cause a relapse for those of us who already have MS. Or at least, that's not the evidence they are presenting. I'm feeling conflicted. Does anyone have any good sources of research on vaccinations either showing them safe or harmful for PwMS?
