You can grow new brain cells.

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

In attempted summary:

Neurogenesis:

Pro
  • Youth
    Antidepressants
    Learning
    Sex
    Running (aerobic exercise)
    Reservatrol
    Omega 3 Fatty Acids
    Calorie restriction
    Blueberries
    Folic acid
    Zinc
    Flavonoids
    Curcurmin
    Caffiene
    Intemittent Fasting
    Tough foods, mastication

Con
  • Age
    Depression
    Cancer drugs
    Stress
    Sleep deprivation
    Vitamin E deficiency
    High sugar
    High Saturated Fat
    Vitamin B deficiency
    Soft diet
    Vitamin A deficiency
    Ethanol
It seems obvious to me that the Pro list is a pro-endothelium pro-circulation set of factors. We may not be curing MS but these things will help anyone interested in recovering from it and possibly preventing further damage.

There are things we cannot avoid, like age, and cancer treatment. But it's interesting to know that the same things that improve your neurogenesis will improve your mood.

The presence of sleep deprivation on this list probably relates directly to the new knowledge about how the brain flushes out the garbage during sleep. Is the converse true, that the more sleep you get, the more neurogenesis?

I got a stumble-upon email where a doctor said you should turn off all your computers, phones, etc. 2 hours before bed. I bet it makes a difference if you stop reading altogether, and dim the lights.

Not a doctor.
