In limbo between mri's to confirm MS

Post by DMMinnie »

Hello, I'm new to this site. In 2006 my symptoms started and we're written off as is or that over the years as they went away. In august 2013 my symptoms started again but never went away and have progressed. I finally got referred to a internist and he did a massive list of tests and a mri which showed brain lesions but they were noted as not being supected MS but if symptoms are present further testing is needed. I have a round of mri's booked for 3 weeks from now on my brain, neck and spine.
List of my symptoms I currently have below.... do you all think we are on the right track thinking MS?????

Tingling and pain in feet running up legs
Not stready when walking
Tingling in Arms mostly left side
Pain in right side of stomach(longest returning symptom)
Extreme fatigue
Anxiety
Hands opening up when holding something
Left ear thumping noise
Lose of feeling in right side of face (like dental freezing)
Tremors in hands when over tired
Vertigo when in dark rooms
Falling when walking up the stairs.
Lots of little minor things but everything gets worst in hot or humid weather and when I'm tired.

Welcome to ThisIsMS, DMMinnie.

Your symptoms are not exclusive to MS; they are common to many conditions. The MS diagnosis can only be made after other more likely causes for your symptoms have been ruled out.

Since your list of symptoms includes "tingling in feet and arms" (which is the definition of peripheral neuropathy), and since the University of Chicago suggests the following blood tests to investigate peripheral neuropathy, I wonder if your internist's "massive list of tests" included the following:

http://peripheralneuropathycenter.uchic ... #bloodtest\
Blood tests

Blood tests are commonly employed to check for vitamin deficiencies, toxic elements and evidence of an abnormal immune response. Depending on your individual situation, your doctor may request certain laboratory tests to identify potentially treatable causes for neuropathy. These include tests for:

Vitamin B12 and folate levels
Thyroid, liver and kidney functions
Vasculitis evaluation
Oral glucose tolerance test
Antibodies to nerve components (e.g., anti-MAG antibody)
Antibodies related to celiac disease
Lyme disease
HIV/AIDS
Hepatitis C and B
I hope your internist began by thoroughly screening for vitamin B12 deficiency. This initial testing should include #1 a serum B12 test; #2 RBC folate test; #3 a methylmalonic acid test; and #4 a serum homocysteine test. The "serum B12" test alone is not adequate to find a deficiency.

Then, proceed through the list, ruling out other possibilities for your symptoms. All the best to you.
