Disappointed

Post by Sailorlal »

So I just went to see my neurologist about the pain I've been having in my limbs. He says that it doesn't sound like MS pain, because it's equal on both sides of the body. WTF. So I got nothing to help with my pain :(

Neurological pain can be treated. How have you tried to treat your pain up to now? Have you had any success?

FWIW, you could consider the news perhaps good news.

Hi,

If you have damage from demyelination on your spine you can get symptoms of altered sensation that are mirrored on both sides of the body. I have that in my hands but I can live with it.
Can you describe what's happening to you in more detail?

Your neurologist is mistaken! Are you sure he/she is a real doctor?

Being equal on both sides of your body is consistent with a Neuropathy.
Most neurologists know next to nothing about the Peripheral Nervous System.
Symmetrical distal neuropathies almost defy neurological diagnosis.
For example, Dr Burt at Northwestern University runs extensive tests on non-MS patients to determine that they probably have a Peripheral Neuropathy prior to HSCT.
Hope this helps.

The pain feels like I worked out my arms really hard, and now they ache. SarahBlair, that's very interesting. I'm supposed to get an MRI on both my brain and my neck- do you think the neck MRI might be helpful in this situation?

Hi,

Now you are starting to tell us something. It's only in your arms?

Do they feel heavy like they are made of lead or do they feel sore? How do your shoulders feel and the area on your back that is level with the shoulder blades?

Regards,
