Streaks of Silver Falling in front of my face
Hello. I am currently in the process of the many tests and slew of doctors appointments to rule out MS.
In the process of all that 3 fractured vertebrae were dicovered. ...so right now I'm trying to get through all of this in order to see if all of these weird symptoms are nerve damage from my back or something autoimmune.
Anyway, my question is...has anyone ever seen silver rain...or snow falling right in front of your face? Almost like silver tinsel? It has happened to me on 3 seperate ocasions in the last 2 months...and it is the only odd symptom that has been happening to me but it not coming up in Google search.
It's pretty alarming. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have not experienced the visual disturbance you have described.danielashell wrote:Anyway, my question is...has anyone ever seen silver rain...or snow falling right in front of your face? Since this has happened on 3 occasions, I suggest you call your GP and ask to see him or an ophthalmologist.
It is my opinion that a "pretty alarming" symptom needs a doctor's attention.
Re: Streaks of Silver Falling in front of my face
if it's not the 'stars' of low blood pressure (which for me means i am dehydrated), could be visual migraine stuff?
i am personally VERY infrequently affected by similar sounding visual symptoms. mine are like this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintilla ... cotoma.gif
personally i have never been diagnosed with ON which is a very typical ms symptom, so i have no idea if that can cause flashes
while some kinds of eye flashes indicate more serious problems (the example i am thinking of is in the case of chemo drugs though), magnesium gets rid of the visual issues for me. IF it seems like a logical fit in your case, could be worth a try while you are setting up a trip to see the doc.

Re: Streaks of Silver Falling in front of my face
My eyesight has changed significantly enough for me to notice as of late. Normally near sided I can no longer see close up either. When I try to focus it's either too blurry or my vision doubles. Plus I always feel like I have clouds floating around in my eyes.
Thank u for the responses. I have 2 more mri's scheduled for Thursday and another visit with my GP set up for 2nd week in jan.

ugh me too. too much computer time i think
what are the docs going to do to sort out your fractured vertebrae? the mris are brain and spine i'm assuming, if you are in an ms ddx kind of process?

The first discovered function for vitamin D was bone health.danielashell wrote:In the process of all that 3 fractured vertebrae were discovered. ...so right now I'm trying to get through all of this in order to see if all of these weird symptoms are nerve damage from my back or something autoimmune.
A Survey of Vitamin D Status in Patients with Degenerative Disease of the Spine. (2016)
Farid Zolfaghari, A Faridmoayer, et al.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5081317/
Conclusions
In summary, according to the results from the present study and similar to other studies in this area, it can be stated that the vitamin D deficiency shows a high prevalence in patients with degenerative diseases of the spine, even in patients treated by vitamin D supplements. Although vitamin D has attracted the attention of researchers in recent decades and its role has been studied and confirmed in various diseases, with knowledge and awareness having increased among the public and medical professionals, it has not yet been enough.…
Stress fractures: concepts and therapeutics. (2016)
CA Moreira, JP Bilezikian

Despite lack of consistency among the publications on this subject, a phenotype does emerge, namely of individuals whose bone mineral density is reduced along with low intake of dietary calcium and low circulating levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D.
This may be another good reason to request a vitamin D test.

Yes it's an mri of brain and spine. They said the L1 fracture they don't think I will need surgery for that, that there is other ways to try to correct it.jimmylegs wrote:ugh me too. too much computer time i think

C5-6 I may need a procedure done. I hope not, but I can't help but wonder if that is what is causing all the nerve issues. And of course I wonder what is causing all these fractures in my spine. Up until this set back I had over trained my body, but I know a lot of people who do heavy lifts without such issues.

I keep reading about vitamin D deficiency and how it can mimic a lot of MS symptoms.lyndacarol wrote:The first discovered function for vitamin D was bone health.danielashell wrote:In the process of all that 3 fractured vertebrae were discovered. ...so right now I'm trying to get through all of this in order to see if all of these weird symptoms are nerve damage from my back or something autoimmune.

I've had two blood panels done in the last 2 months...when I go back in January I'm going to inquire about vitamin D levels.
It does kind of explain why my back would be this way plus the ms like symptoms.

ah lifting OK that makes sense, can you elaborate on that and any other of your fitness activities? there is a distinct set of active folks who arrive here based on symptoms.

Really?!?jimmylegs wrote:ah lifting OK that makes sense, can you elaborate on that and any other of your fitness activities? there is a distinct set of active folks who arrive here based on symptoms.
That's kind of what I've been trying to research, and haven't really come up with anything. I almost feel like it all must be related.
Sorry if this gets long winded but I'm trying to make sense of it all.
3 yrs ago I weighed in at about 125lbs and was squatting up to 200 lbs. I was able to push press around 115lbs.
I did a lot of Olympic lifts, plus a ton of strength and conditioning, and on top of that I taught 11 group exercise classes a week. Very high impact classes for the most part.
During those 3 yrs my one hip started to dislocate every so often and my physical trainer would put it back in and then back off to work I'd go.
Gradually it started happening more and more often.
And now in the last year I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT loss in strength. I am just TIRED. My body just isn't working anywhere close to the way it used to.
I can't help but think maybe it is all related..?
I don't know WHAT to think!
Re: Streaks of Silver Falling in front of my face
yep absolutely, this sounds very much like your body's nutritional demands exceed inputs. there is quite a catalogue of literature on nutrient depletion in athletes. it seems quite likely that you have one or more nutrient deficits even against targets designed for average non-athlete joe. you'll more than likely need to exceed mainstream recommended amounts to suit your activity levels.
for just one example with relevance to bones in particular, magnesium is at risk of depletion in response to stress, including the physiological stress associated with exertion. a few yrs ago when nadal seized up during an interview the first thing i thought was 'magnesium'
re the fractures, in addition to the loads being applied to your frame, magnesium is lost in sweat and specifically helps your body absorb and utilize d3. i haven't had this thought in some time but i remember previously being annoyed in regards to bone mineral density tests, that there is not clarity on which minerals we are talking about specifically and how mineral amounts and ratios change in those with optimal or suboptimal status.
you can start taking action by tracking food, fluids, any supplements, meds and/or antinutrients. you may already have a partial record. i'll link you up with related past posts on the forum

Have you been to an eye doctor yet? It sounds like a visit with an ophthalmologist may be in order.

fyi info on the scary example mentioned, in context of chemo, during yesterday's related chats.

Ugh. This all sounds very scary. I am 38 yrs old with 3 young children. I have my mri's tomorrow and then the visit with my doctor in January. I will ask her for a referral to an eye doctor.
Thank you for your responses.

Jimmylegs thank you for this info. I didn't realize until after ur post that there is an exercise and diet forum on here. I may make a post there.jimmylegs wrote:yep absolutely, this sounds very much like your body's nutritional demands exceed inputs. there is quite a catalogue of literature on nutrient depletion in athletes. it seems quite likely that you have one or more nutrient deficits even against targets designed for average non-athlete joe. you'll more than likely need to exceed mainstream recommended amounts to suit your activity levels.

This would all make sense, for the majority of my life I have eaten a very high protein and leafy green diet. Gluten free, refined sugar free....buttttt also verrrry little to no dairy...which would explain vitamin D. Also I have not taken any supplements up until recently I've started vitamin E and B complex for nerve health.
