marathon

Post by Loriyas »

My husband ran the 32nd Marine Corps Marathon this past Sunday. He ran it to raise funds for Accelerated Cure Project. He trained for 6 months in the hot, humid Florida weather. His goal (besides just finishing!) was to run the race in less than 5 hours. This was quite a lofty goal for a first time marathoner. His time was 4:58:32! It was an incredible experience, not just for him but for his family also. We met him at mile 25 and our kids (age 14 and 11) ran the last mile with him. You can't imagine the emotions I had as I watched him run the last mile with our kids encouraging him on!

He told me that as he was running he would think about all of us MSers and that's what kept him going. When his legs felt like concrete he would think to himself that some MS patients feel like this all the time. When his feet went numb toward the end he said it gave him an idea of how it feels when I complain about that symptom. So that's what made him push on.

As you can probably tell I am very proud of him. We don't have a tally yet of the amount of $ raised. It is still coming in.

I thought you'd all like to hear this.

Gosh, Lori, that's very well done for a first timer!I somehow think that you all four will remember it forever. I think you should be as proud of him for training in the hot, humid Florida weather as anything else.

An Itinerary in Light and Shadow Completed Dr Charles Stratton / Dr David Wheldon abx regime for aggressive secondary progressive MS in June 2007, after four years. Still improving with no relapses since starting. Can't run but can paint all day.

Lori

I'll echo JL--terrific job. The way I see it everyone's a winner, your husband, your children, you and the Accelerated Cure Project.

It doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for letting us know about it.

Thank you for your comments. I passed them on to my husband and he appreciates them also. Makes him feel that it was all worthwhile!
