I've been recommended by my neurologist to see if I can get into Dr. Burt's stem cell study at Northwestern.
I will be randomized into either the Tysabri or the stem cell arm of the study. I'm hoping for the stem cell, but Tysabri would be my next move anyway. But still I'm hoping for the stem cell arm.
I'll be seeing Dr. Burt, and starting pre testing on dec 30th.
I'm really excited to get on with this. My cognitive function has really been rough lately. If I was the type of person who embarrassed easily...
Since the study is not Pharma sponsored, I have to get my insurance company to go along. That may be a battle. But really the insurance co spends over 60,000 a year just on meds, the stem cell arm is expected to cost about 200, 000. That's just 3 years of meds, nevermind the hospital stays now and then.
Wish me luck everyone. I have a friend who was in the phase II, she's doing great, that was about 6? years ago. At the time I thought she was crazy, but I also never thought I would become this non-functional.
I'll post again after the 30th!
